Composting in your own garden is generally legal – however, this is not permitted commercially. However, you should follow precise instructions on how to compost correctly before you can use the soil.

Alternatively, the contents of the toilet can also be disposed of in a bag in the residual waste, similar to baby diapers.

No. An eco-toilet can be set up completely independently of the location. The water required for washing stations, for example, is connected externally via tanks and does not require its own supply.

No. Thanks to the dry toilet system, an eco-toilet does not need to be connected to a wastewater pipe or a sewer system. All waste is collected directly and not discharged into the sewage system.

Not for most products. The lamps in our cabins are powered by solar cells and batteries, which means that no sockets are required for lighting. The heating and the instantaneous water heater for the shower require a power connection.

Thanks to its considerable weight of over 230 kg, an öKlo Klassik is stable wherever it is placed. Storms therefore cannot knock a cabin over.

Our other outdoor products are also designed in such a way that, thanks to their metal frame and weight, they cannot simply be knocked over by gusts of wind or even high-spirited rioters.

Yes, our ecological toilets can withstand storms and rain as well as hot sunlight. Even in deep snow, hail or frost, there is no risk that the toilets will not work.

Yes, because no water is used as a flush, nothing can freeze in the toilets.

In the increasingly mild winters, the water in our washing stations hardly ever freezes. If it does freeze, no damage is to be expected. As soon as it thaws again, everything works as usual.

Absolutely not. Thanks to the chimney effect ventilation and the wooden walls, the indoor temperatures remain at a pleasant – or at least bearable – level even in summer.

No. The type of toilet paper does not play a role in the recycling process. However, organic toilet paper is more neutral in production and all-round better for our environment, which is why we recommend it! It is therefore essential to look out for quality labels such as FSC and/or the Blue Angel.

All our öKlo cubicles can be locked from the inside with a lock and from the outside with a key.

Yes, there are instructions on the inside of each toilet door that describe in both pictures and words how to use the dry toilet.

Yes, a skylight provides sufficient lighting. A battery-operated interior light is also available as an option.

Unfortunately, there is currently no child seat available for purchase in our range. However, our team is working on changing this in the future.

Thanks to the separation of liquid and solid substances and the additional use of wood shavings or sawdust, no odor develops in our toilets. The litter binds substances that would otherwise cause odors, such as ammonia.

As the name suggests, a dry toilet is a toilet that works completely without water. No fresh water or waste water connection is required for the toilet to be put into operation.

Dry toilets are usually “flushed” with litter. So – in our case – either a shovel or one or two handfuls of the sawdust provided are scattered over the droppings so that they are covered.

At öKlo, we prefer to use wood shavings as bedding, but other bedding materials can also be used for dry toilets. For example, coconut bricks are sometimes used in separating toilets with a mixer.

Other options include:

  • Sawdust
  • coconut fibers
  • small animal litter
  • Biodegradable cat litter
  • bark mulch
  • dry coffee grounds
  • Humus or soil (preferably compost)
  • Miscanthus (elephant grass)

It depends on the type of dry toilet. For an eco-toilet, for example, you mainly need shavings/sawdust and toilet paper. One barrel is normally sufficient if emptied regularly – however, we recommend two barrels so that one can be washed out while the other is in use.

Our cabins also have a disinfectant dispenser, for which you have to buy new disinfectant from time to time.

In your own garden basically everywhere, as long as neighbors or residents are not disturbed by visible toilet passages.

Yes, you can!

The easiest way to do this is with kits that are available online, but you can also build your own toilet from scratch with instructions.

If you want to tackle a project like this, you will gain some experience over time that was probably not considered during the planning phase – but of course this also works!

Depending on the barrel size, the barrel must be emptied accordingly often. One toilet visit contains about 0.4 liters. With a drum size of 60 liters, it therefore needs to be emptied after approximately every 150th visit to the toilet.

No! The separation of liquid and solid substances removes all moisture from the solids and thus reduces odor formation. In addition, the sawdust binds uric acid (ammonia) and other odor-forming substances and emits wood odor instead.

You don’t have to pay much attention here – sprinkling a handful more sawdust than usual is enough.

Of course, it is impossible to avoid odors when moving faeces. However, this is more comparable to the smell of a cat’s litter box when mucking out. Anyone who has ever changed a diaper has probably had to endure more.

We currently have three weight categories for parcels (excluding merchandise)

within Austria:

  • light (up to 10kg) – from 15€
  • medium (up to 32kg) – from 30€
  • heavy (up to 200kg) – from 200€

To Germany

  • light (up to 10kg) – from 25€
  • medium (up to 32kg) – from 45€
  • heavy (up to 200kg) – from 300€
  • From 500€ purchase the shipping costs are included.

The following shipping costs apply to our T-shirts and posters:

  • Within Austria: 6€
  • To Germany: 12€

The delivery time may vary depending on the item. In general, you can expect a delivery time of 1-3 days if the item is currently in stock.

For our poster and T-shirt orders within Austria, the delivery time is 1 to 3 working days.

If you need to cancel, it is best to contact us directly. Simply get in touch with one of our sales staff – by phone or email.

It usually takes a few minutes to a day. If you have not received an order confirmation, please contact us directly. It could be that we have not received your order correctly or that a technical error has occurred during processing.

Yes, the shipping confirmation sent by e-mail also includes a tracking number that can be used to track the parcel’s route online.

This depends on the supplier. In most cases, a second delivery attempt is made, but it can also happen that the delivery is left at a parcel store.

If any part of the order is missing or damaged when the delivery arrives, please contact us immediately. We will do our best to send you a replacement as quickly as possible.

If the delivery arrives visibly damaged, please sign for receipt of delivery with reservations. If this is not possible, simply do not accept the delivery! In this case, the carrier is liable for the damage.

This may be due to the lighting, among other things. Our photos are taken in a professional environment and are therefore well lit and post-processed. The colors may therefore differ slightly from those on the screen.

If a feature deviates to a noticeably greater extent from the photo, please contact us and we will be happy to take a look at it together.

You have 14 days from receipt of the goods to return your delivery to us. Please note: No costs will be covered if the goods are returned by a forwarding agent. You do not have to give a reason for your decision, but we are always happy to receive feedback!

As soon as we receive your return within 14 days, we will refund your money. Depending on how you paid with us, you will receive

  • a credit to your bank account if you paid in advance. Please provide us with your bank details (IBAN and BIC) so that we can carry out the transfer.
  • with PayPal a credit to your PayPal account.
  • with Sofortüberweisung a credit to your bank account. Please provide us with your bank details (IBAN and BIC) so that we can carry out the transfer.
  • for credit card payments, a credit to your credit card.
  • With Klarna, you will receive a credit directly to your Klarna account.

Please note that returns cannot be refunded for products that have already been used! This includes already assembled kits, already used or modified / otherwise manipulated items.
